Alcossebre bids farewell to the fiestas with a spectacular firework display

[Img #25812]On Sunday 15th September the final event of the local fiestas took place.  A magnificent end to the fiestas with first on the list the last day of the highly successful Ruta de la Tapa, attracted both local customers and residents from nearby towns to enjoy the flavour of small helpings of gastronomic ingenuity.

There was tremendous participation on the last day of the fiestas from the members of the “Sant Benet” Pensioners’ Association who enjoyed their traditional club luncheon at the Restaurante Tere.  There had recently been an exchange with the pensioners’ association in Culla, and their Chairman and the town’s mayor were present.  Esther Pallard, the Castellon Deputy attended, and the municipal corporation headed by mayor Francisco Juan Mars.

Speeches preceded the luncheon, opened by the Chairman of the association, Jacinto Gauxachs, who started by saying that “I know that normally one is boring, but this time I just want to thank the council for all the support we have been given all these years, right up to having a centre which is the envy of everyone”.

Mayor Francisco Juan Mars, in his response, announced the creation of a ‘Chill out’ area in the centre “so that the terrace can be enjoyed with it magnificent views”.  The day ended with those who had reached the age of 80 years being awarded certificates, and then there was dancing late into the night.

Alejandro Cucala’s bulls and the herdsmen’s competition attracted a large crowd to the bull ring for its last festive event.  Finally there was the great firework display from the Cargador Beach to completely round off the festivities.

Francisco Juan Mars said “the fiestas make everyone of all ages think and it is very positive to see the crowds attending all the events”.  “The fiestas have passed with friendliness and without incident and this is the most important thing to emphasize.”

Alcossebre Fiestas draw to a close
As the fiestas drew to their en on 14th September the Vallterra car park was the scene for the paella competition organised each year by the Asociación de Jubilados de Alcossebre “Sant Benet”.
Over 250 people got together for this gastronomic meeting, which turned into a magnificent club day which went on long into the evening with people sitting around their tables.
