Alcalá de Xivert
El Repiquet gathered together in Alcala de Xivert over 500 drummers from 21 guilds from all over the province
This event was held
for the third year running, and each year it gains more followers who
all agree that it is an experience which cannot be defined – “what one
feels cannot be explained, you have to be there for it”
The procession of all the guilds started at 10pm, along the main streets in the town, ending at the Church Square, where great crowds had gathered so as not to miss this spectacle with the great drum Lo Gaspatxer at its centre.
Jose Ramón Pitarch was the master of ceremonies and after some words of welcome from local Mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, the awaited moment arrived, with the drums, bells and rockets covering everything and sending vibrations through the crowd.
At the end, mementoes were presented to each of the participating groups, during which some of them gave short exhibitions of their skill, and there was hot chocolate and the traditional ‘biscochos’.
The next event will be on Good Friday night with El Repiquet beating out the ‘Trenca de l’Hora’.
