Trip of the Alcalá/Alcossebre Zarzuela Fans to the Teatro Principal of Castellón on Saturday March 29th
Another year the Zarzuela fans met on the bus which took us to Castellón where, before entering the theatre, we could still enjoy the Magdalena ambience, though the chilly temperature and especially the cold wind didn´t invite to sit outside, but just to go on a stroll along the bustling streets of the centre.
This year most of us preferred sitting in the „anfiteatro“ instead of sitting in the „paraíso“, which meant less stairs and less stress for legs and knees, because you shouldn´t forget that most of us have left youth long, long ago.
We had already seen „El Huésped del Sevillano“ – the Guest of the Sevillano Inn – in 2006, produced by the Compañía Lírica de Zarzuela de Madrid. This time it was a Sevillian Company which delighted us with impressive voices, comical scenes, beautiful, regional dresses and costumes, lovely dances and the presence of the inn´s guest Miguel Cervantes who, towards the end, started to write one of his famous novels, „La Ilustre Fregona“ – the illustrious skivvy -, based on Constancia, the inn´s beautiful servant.
After the well deserved applause and due to the cold wind, we went straight to the bus which took us savely back.
Thanks go to the Alcala Musical Association Santa Cecilia for having given us, once more, the opportunity of watching a zarzuela. Hopefully we will see again next year!
