Alcala-Alcossebre leads the way in recycling materials such as plastics and card
For the last three years, the Ecoembes company has certified that the Alcala-Alcossebre municipality is the leader in Castellón province for recycling materials like card and plastics, with the average per person being higher than in the other municipalities.
In order to stay in this privileged position, since the 14th April, Alcala-Alcossebre Council has distributed 125 containers (and more if needed) specifically for hotel and catering businesses, aiming to involve the sector in policies of sustainability and respect for the environment. On the first day, the mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, was present, accompanied by councillor Rafael Trujillo, staff from the Provincial Waste Consortium and from the company contracted to collect the waste in the municipality, to see for themselves how the containers were being distributed.
The new containers are for light packaging, which can be recycled, with the ensuing savings that this represents. The mayor said that “we will continue our efforts to make the recycling figures increase year by year, above all taking into account the fact that our residents are very conscious of taking care of the environment and recycling. This means that every little help counts towards our aim of increasing recycling each year”.
As a tourist destination, its natural surroundings and their sustainability are some of the distinctive features of Alcala de Xivert and, in particular, Alcossebre, compared to other destinations with similar characteristics. This is endorsed by the many quality certificates which are awarded by various audit bodies to the beaches, port and the coastal walkway etc.
It is thanks to the cooperation of residents and visitors that this position as a leader in recycling is made possible, together with the deployment of selective collection bins and the two ‘tips’ (ecoparques), one in Alcala and the other in Alcossebre.
