The Alcossebre Cancer Charity Walk
One of the events which has become an inexcusable date for the people of Alcala-Alcossebre is the traditional Charity Walk in aid of the Spanish Cancer Association, organised by one of the most active groups in the municipality for social and humanitarian purposes, the Friends of Alcossebre, which took place on Easter Saturday.

The walk of a little over 7 kms, starting at the Plaza de La Mola and going to the lighthouse and back to the start, was enjoyed by a large number of people who joined this charity initiative to collect funds for the fight against cancer.
There were also stalls laid out in the Plaza de La Mola, with the same aim of raising money to help support those suffering from the disease and their families in their struggle
against this terrible illness.
The “Lo Xular” group of pipes and drums did not miss the opportunity of accompanying the walk again, and were joined this year by the stilt-walking group “Alcozancos”.
Also, as has become his custom, the mayor of Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre, Francisco Juan Mars, together with members of the council, joined the walk.
The mayor stated that “it is very important for people to be aware of the needs of cancer sufferers and the Friends of Alcossebre’s initiative shows the clearest and most supportive indication of the response of the social associations in our municipality, as well as being a great example of integration represented by this group, with its members from other European countries who have decided to make Alcossebre and Alcala de Xivert their home showing their concern for the problems affecting their neighbours and taking positive action to help the community”.
The walkers enjoyed a sunny morning and the wonderful scenery along the coast of Alcossebre, at the foot of the Sierra d’Irta mountains.
