A Marathon for Cancer

A couple of Alcossebre sportsmen have signed up for the Rock&Roll Madrid Marathon, to collect money for the “Clic Sargent for Children with Cancer” and the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer charities.

[Img #32359]Cliff Farthing, a retired Englishman who is well-known in Alcossebre for his charitable fund raising, had the idea originally, and although he has previously only run one marathon (Barcelona 2013), his fervour and passion for running and helping others is an example to everyone else.

Hi colleague in the venture is Vicent Ferrer, also well known in the area as he is the physical education teacher at the La Mola Primary School.

Vicent has a little more experience at this distance, and has already run a marathon in Madrid, and this will be his twelfth road marathon.  In the past he has run in some of the most prestigious marathons in Europe – Paris, Berlin, Rome and Athens.

[Img #32360]The challenge takes place on 27th April at 9am starting from the Plaza Cibeles in the Spanish capital.

“We both lost our mothers to Cancer, and so we hope that our legs can help all those people, children and families who are affected by this illness as much as we can” they said.

You can support these two athletes in their fight against cancer for just two euros by filling in one of the boxes with the time that you think the marathon will end.[Img #32361]

You will find these pages in various places in Alcossebre.  Or you can send a donation to the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer Alcalà de Xivert account number ES23 7399 4928 1000 8683.
