Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Council is continuing its renewal of street lighting in the municipality along the Paseo Marítimo in Alcossebre.

The street lights which were situated along the wall of the Paseo Marítimo have been moved towards the road, so that they illuminate part of the pavement and the roadway where there is traffic.  To achieve this they are installing the lights alternately, one towards the pavement and the other towards the road.

According to council sources, this new arrangement aims to improve illumination and safety along the Paseo Marítimo with efficient lighting.  The Council has had the work carried out by the company awarded the contract to supply electricity in the municipality, and is part of the improvements included in the management contract, and therefore there are no further calls upon the town’s funds.

The mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, pointed out that “renewing the lighting is part of our aim to use efficient power and make savings to the Council’s expenditure, something which is making us more efficient with fewer resources, and able to make a major contribution from the budget towards solving very urgent social problems such as unemployment, through our Employment Plans”.

All this”, added the mayor, “is without having to put on hold improvements to the public infrastructure, and results in a better quality of life, as well as offering a better image of our town to the tourists who come here.  In the same way, in addition to improving the lighting, we have recently completed work resurfacing the Paseo Marítimo, so that this very busy part of the coastal town was in a perfect condition for the summer season, making it better for our visitors so that their stay with us could be a pleasant experience which they would want to repeat”.
