Rafa Zapata and Diana Pérez clear winners of the 3rd Alcossebre Triathlon

On Saturday, 26th July, the third of the five competitions which make up the Provincial Triathlon Circuit, coordinated by the Castellón Diputación, took place in Alcossebre. A total of 400 sportsmen and women met at the Las Fuentes beach to swim 750 metres along a marked course in the Las Fuentes Beach bay. They then faced the cycling test, in which they had to ride three times around a route which passed from the Plaza Tanduay, along the avenida Manila and the Las Fuentes road up to the Tossalet roundabout, thus completing 22 kilometres. The last of the three tests was the race on foot, when they had to follow a 7 kilometre route all along the Paseo Marítimo and the Lighthouse road.
The overall winner was Rafa Zapata Sánchez, who crossed the finishing line in 1 hour 9 minutes, followed by Jose María Sayas in 1 hour 10 minutes and the last place on the podium went to Alejandro Manuel Cerda just 5 seconds later.
The fastest women were Diana Pérez in 1 hour 20 minutes, followed by Yowanka Pallares, in 1 hour 21 minutes and Isabel Espert in 1 hour 22 minutes.
The trophies were presented by the Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Sports Councillor, María Agut, and Jose Ángel Traver.
María Agut expressed her satisfaction at the way the race had been organised, “it was a good example of cooperation between the Local Police and the many volunteers who took part. Their work was extraordinary”. She also said “the support we provide for this sort of event which complements our tourists’ enjoyment of the town, is important. Many of the competitors came from all over Spain and stayed, with their family, in Alcossebre for the whole weekend”.
The next triathlon in the circuit will be in Burriana and the last one will be in Oropesa del Mar on the 30th August.
