During Women’s Week, held in the local municipality, this was one of the most popular events. The Alcala Pensioners Hall was full for the fashion show of international costumes and the exhibition of wedding dresses from the past.
Syria, Pakistan, China, France, Scotland, Russia, Tunisia, the U.S.A., Palestine, Jordan... The large audience.applauded clothes and fiesta costumes from the most diverse cultures. The collection, international costumes belonging to Hafida Latta, was lent to the Council for the occasion. It was very interesting and turned the pensioners’ hall into a true catwalk where the models, who were local residents of all ages, did not disappoint and were the highlight of the event.
There were typical local costumes and a spectacular collection of wedding dresses which were widely admired by the audience. Some of the dresses on display had been lent by local residents, and they went back covering nearly a century of history. Francisco Juan, who together with members of the council Desa Pitarch and Maria Agut, was present at the fashion show, expressed his satisfaction at the public response: “It is very gratifying to see how people were interested in this event and generally in the Women’s Week programme”. For Juan, “this collection of costumes is a mirror of the mixed cultures presently in our municipality, particularly along the coast in Alcossebre. We are a town with many nationalities and this enriches us”.
The Alcala mayor also urged the audience to enjoy the final events in the Women’s Week programme: “some of the events promise to be very interesting. The Fashion Workshop and the trip to Las Cortes and the Palau de la Música are events which should not be missed”.
