Five Airways airline chooses Castellón Airport as the permanent base for a Yak 42

The aircraft, capacity 110 passengers, is already parked at Castellón

From Castellón it will fly to destinations for which it has been chartered

[Img #49928]SNC Lavallin Aeropuerto Castellón has reached an agreement with charter flight company Five Airways for one of its aircraft to be permanently parked at Castellón airport.  A Yak 42 passenger aircraft of Russian manufacture, with a capacity of 110 passengers, operated by the company, landed at mid-day on Friday 17th June.  This is in addition to Ryanair and Blue Air which already operate in Castellón.

The Five Airways aircraft will be based at Castellón from where it will fly to other destinations in different countries on charter flights contracted by Five Airways.  Once one of these flights is completed, the Yak 42 will return to Castellón and remain there until its next flight.

Five Airways is an airline company based in Castellón province and whose business is the hiring and management of aircraft, charter flight services and other air services such as executive travel and transporting goods.

The arrival of Five Airways at Castellón is the result of negotiations initiated by the new airport director, Alexander Schroll, with whom the charter flight company has set up commercial agreements in this respect.

Schroll stated that the permanent presence of the Yak 42 at Castellón shows the aim of SNC Lavalin Aeropuerto Castellón to “increase services and activity” at the airport complex.  He also declared that Five Airways decision to park one of their aircraft at Castellón is evidence of “the trust that there is within the airline sector for our airport” and he added that SNC Lavalin Aeropuerto Castellón expects to continue its growth plans in 2016 and 2017, a year in which they hope to reach a total of 240,000 passengers.

The Yak 42’s landing was accompanied by the traditional reception ceremony for a new airline.  As had previously occurred with the Ryanair and Blue Air inaugural flights, the fire engines greeted the Russian manufactured triple engined aircraft with cascades of water.

On the 1st June, the airport gave the same welcome to the first Bucharest-Castellón flight, which will take place twice a week throughout the year.

Next, on the 9th September, activity at the Castellón terminal will increase with the Ryanair flights to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, a connection which was going to start on the 31st October but which the airline decided to bring forward because of the high demand.
