The Alcala-Alcossebre mayor demands “more and better trains between Castellón and the Baix Maestrat”

Francisco Juan: “We cannot continue enduring a rail connection with Castellón as if we were in a under-developed country”

[Img #55946]The mayor of Alcala-Alcossebre, Francisco Juan, has sent letters to the Ministro de Fomento, Iñigo de la Serna, and to the Dirección General de Transporte Terrestre, demanding that the central government finds a solution to the inadequate train connections between the Baix Maestrat region and Castellón.  Juan sets out to the Ministry officers that “there are many residents who have to travel every day to Castellón, for various matters, such as medical appointments, administrative purposes, work and studies so that the Vinaros-Castellón line should be improved, with stops at Benicarló-Peñíscola, Alcalà de Xivert, Torreblanca, Oropesa y Benicàssim with a minimum frequency equal to that from Castellón to Valencia”.  In the letter, he asks that “the rail connection be improved, giving priority to social criteria over financial criteria and taking into account requests from the towns affected and should keep them informed so that they can participate in passing on residents’ needs”.

Juan explains that “the Councils in the Baix Maestrat have fought for this for many years, with governments of different political colours in the central government, and nothing has changed and those who are suffering are our residents.  Therefore, we ask that, when increasing the trains, the social criteria are taken into account more than the finances.  Our residents have the same right to have good communications as any other citizen in the province”.
