Now in its fourth year, Alcala de Xivert will live its “Passió per la Trencà” with some new ideas
On Good Friday, you can see “La Passió per la Trencà” in Alcala de Xivert, the fourth year of the presentation, making it an event which is certain to feature in the local Holy Week programme.
When it started, “La Passió per la Trencà” was held at mid-day on the Saturday, it then passed to the Friday at midnight and now it is held an hour earlier, on Friday at 11pm, in a performance which lasts about an hour.
There are between 45 and 50 actors taking part in this representation of the passion and death of Jesus, and the “El Repiquet” group of Drummers, the band, the choir and a large team of technicians must be added to the number of actors.
As the organisers explain, “Paco, who is always the one who thinks of these things” commented José Ramón, “thought of performing a Passion play. As in all things, we started in a small way, with a few scenes, about seven in the first year”. After the first production “we could see that it had potential and we went on improving the technical aspects and the scenes, until little by little we went on adapting and changing the script”.
For this year characters have been changed and scenes added, such as that with Judas.
The unseen work is important, with the creation this year of an emergency plan, “this is important, because actually nothing has ever happened, but... one has to be ready in case something does happen”, the organisers explained. The Red Cross and the Local Police are helping with this plan.
Again this year there will be a suitable place so that disabled people can see “La Passió per la Trencà” and, if they ask, “they can be brought from their home”.
Rehearsals started after the Carnivals, “at first just 2 or 3 times a week, with one scene being rehearsed each day, and then all of them together”.
Promotion
A new promotional video has been produced by Carlos Aguilar this year. “We show how in a trailer of the film of the life of Jesus, which is very spectacular”. “The players again are the Passion play actors themselves and the scenes are set in local places around our town”.
Working on the production “is brutal, having all the costumes, people and material ready”; an example is the scene with the crosses which was filmed at Santa Lucia.
Another element which they wanted to highlight “is that it is important to point out that our “Passió per la Trencà” is performed in Castellano and that tourists appreciate this”.
Finally they thank all those taking part and those cooperating for their support – from the people who bought Christmas lottery tickets to the Amas de Casa who have sewn all the costumes. They emphasise the financial support from the Friends of Alcossebre, the Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Council and the Diputación de Castellón”.
