In its fourth year, “La Passió per la trencà” in Alcala de Xivert was better than ever

A crowded audience watched “La Passió per la trencà” in Alcala de Xivert, packing the Church Square to see the representation of the bible passages on the passion and death of Jesus Christ.  This fourth year of the theatrical presentation offered some new parts and added more scenes, such as that of the repentance of Judas, improving the play and making it bigger from the start of the initial scene, in which seven scenes were shown.

The different stage sets were placed around the church square, with the exception of the Way of the Cross, through the streets of Purísima, Desamparados and alcalde Puig, then returning to the Church Square for the final scenes of the crucifixion and the resurrection.

There were new improvements to the script; the addition of lighting and costumes for about 50 actors and actresses, bringing the biblical people alive.  Details which single out this theatrical performance are the drumming of the “El Repiquet” group of drummers and the Alcala de Xivert Unión Musical Santa Cecilia playing some of the passages of the background music for the play.

“El Repiquet” is the local group which started this project which has grown over the years, with the addition of new scenes – like the scene this year with John the Baptist - as well as starting the play with the sound of their drums following the signal of the striking of the “Lo Gaspatxer” drum.
