The Alcala-Alcossebre Council Fiestas Department adds the positions of “festeros” to the Patronal fiestas

Interested young men and boys can take part occupying the same rank as the “festeras”

The Alcala-Alcossebre Council Fiestas Department has decided to open up the court for the fiestas for maximum participation, and for the first time, interested young men and boys can be “festeros”, occupying the same rank as the young women and girl “festeras”.  The Fiestas councillor, Susan Guillamón, explained that “we thought of doing this because we believed that young men and boys have the same right to be representatives at the town’s fiesta and should have the same prominence as the girls”.  This means that we have to introduce some changes in certain events in the fiesta calendar, most importantly the level of protocol, but “we think that it will be very positive and that the changes will be well received as it shows that we are adapting to new times and encouraging equality.  We have seen how other towns have adopted this measure and there have been no problems”.

Those who are interested in being a festero or festera can now enrol at the Alcala Council offices, where they will be given any further information they may require.  The Patronal fiestas this year start on the 24th August and end on the 3rd September in Alcala and will be held from the 6th to the 10th September in Alcossebre.  The councillor encouraged “both young women and men and boys and girls to want to represent the town and take an active part in the fiestas”.
