The Alcala-Alcossebre Council Services Department requests that no household furniture or garden pruning waste be left on the public highway

To encourage citizens to cooperate by taking items to the recycling centres or by using the free collection service for large items which is provided by the Council

The Alcala-Alcossebre Council Services Department does not want furniture, large objects and tree branches left on the public highway or next to the waste containers as this gives the town a bad image and, also, makes the work of the company more difficult when collecting the rubbish and cleaning the streets.

To make clearing this type of waste as easy as possible, the Council and the concessionary waste collection company, have made available to residents a free-phone line on 900 505 523.  The company will note the address of the resident and the items and rubbish which is being thrown out which will be collected on a Saturday morning.  The Services Councillor, José Ángel Traver, points out that “this is a totally free service which is very convenient as the materials are collected from your home and the resident does not have to take them anywhere”.

If, for any reason, the rubbish needs to be disposed of before the Saturday, it can be taken to the recycling centres in Alcala and Alcossebre.  The one in Alcala, located in the camino Clot del Diumenge, is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10am to 2pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3pm to 5pm.  The Alcossebre recycling centre, in the camino de Artola (next to the railway line), is open from Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 1.30pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm and Wednesdays and Fridays from 3pm to 7pm.

Article 8 of the municipal regulatory bylaw for citizen coexistence expressly includes that “it is prohibited to leave cartons, plastics, rubble and garden pruning in the public highway outside the appropriate container, as well as furniture and other belongings, without previously notifying the large items collection service”.  If ‘dumping’ of this nature is considered a very serious offence, a fine of 1,501 to 3,000 euros could be applied, or for less serious offences, a fine of 751 to 1,500 euros, and up to 750 euros for a light offence.

“It is very important for us to cooperate together to maintain the municipality in a good condition as, however much the Council tries to improve the service, it achieves nothing if the antisocial acts continue with little respect for the municipality”, the head of the Services department said.
