The domestic water supply network is being renovated from the Guillamón reservoir to Alcala town

The work is included in the Hydraulic Infrastructures Improvement Plan and will be carried out by Facsa, who earlier this year renovated the water supply in the Las Fuentes urbanisation in Alcossebre.

Alcala-Alcossebre Council is working to improve the domestic water supply, within the Hydraulic Infrastructures Improvement Plan which is being carried out by the concessionary company Facsa-Ciclo Integral del Agua.  The work which is currently being undertaken is renovating the mains which supplies Alcala, from the Regalfarí water deposit, which is fed from the Guillamón deposit.  The work consists of installing 1,690 metres of new polyethylene pipes in the Balsa Espitges lane.  The new pipes replace the previous reinforced concrete pipes installed in the 70’s which have now reached the end of their usefulness and are in danger of breaking and leaking.  The pipe work crosses the RENFE line in two places, and taking this into account, should there be any leakages, the town’s water supply could be compromised for a considerable length of time.  The current work will prevent this happening.

Although the work is making good progress, with more than half of the pipes installed, it is planned that it will be finished in September.  While the work is going on, there will be various road closures in the camino San Miguel.  The budget for the work is approximately 250,000 euros which Facsa will meet within the global renovation work.  As well as this work, pipes are being renovated in 2017 in calle Aralar, calle Mindoro and calle Torre Badum in the Alcossebre Las Fuentes urbanisation.

The mayor, Francisco Juan,  pointed out that “it is very important to guarantee the correct supply of domestic water for all the town’s residents.  With this work, our whole water supply network will be modernised and appropriate for the population’s current needs”.
