Alcala-Alcossebre offers itself as the location for a new Sierra d’Irta Natural Park Information Centre
The Council already holds land at the entrance to the Park, in the area near the Alcossebre light-house, which was purchased at the time for this purpose
Alcala-Alcossebre Council is in discussions with the management of the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park and the Generalitat Valenciana’s Direcció General de Medi Natural i Avaluació Ambiental about the location of a new Sierra d’Irta Natural Park Information Centre. The Tourist councillor, Alejandra Roca, explains that “for the last couple of years, we have been suggesting the possibility of our municipality accommodating an interpretation and visitors centre for the Natural Park as we have municipal land, which had already been acquired at the beginning of the 21st century, exactly for this purpose”. The land is situated in the Alcossebre lighthouse area, the only place with vehicle access along the coast of the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park and one of the most visited areas.
A visit to the spot has been planned for 15th November by the Director General de Medi Natural i Avaluación Ambiental to check on the suitability of the land the Council is offering. The councillor pointed out that “to have this resource would mean having a space situated right in the park but accessible and which would attract many tourists interested in the environment and nature”.
The Mayor, Francisco Juan, said that “on the part of the Alcala-Alcossebre Council, we are going to give all our support so that this new information centre becomes a reality, which would give added value to the Park in our municipality. We hope that the Generalitat Valenciana achieves the same commitment and will cooperate in the construction of the building”.
