Alcala-Alcossebre to have a Municipal Accessibility Plan
It will be drawn up through an agreement with COCEMFE and will assess the town’s requirements and possible solutions

Alcala-Alcossebre is to have a new Municipal Accessibility Plan, when the requirements in the town have been tackled and solutions found to facilitate moving around the town centre and improving accesses to public spaces in the locality.
The Mayor Francisco Juan has had a meeting with representatives of COCEMFE Maestrat – its president, Ramón Meseguer, and secretary, Joaquin López. Following the signature of an agreement between the Council and COCEMFE Comunitat Valenciana, experts from this body will analyse the deficiencies in the municipality and, together with the Jaume I University Architecture department, will draw up the Plan, to eliminate the architectural and town planning barriers and how they need to be adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility or any other type of disability (audio, visual, elderly people, etc.) It will take into account adapting the town centre and different public buildings and areas.
The Mayor Francisco Juan explained that “through the various Employment Plans, we have carried out work to improve accessibility in the town but by drawing up a Plan we want to include all the actions required in one document, determine the priorities and, above all, count on the experience and participation of specialists in these matters who will know the best solutions”. The Plan, which could be drawn up early in 2018, will have to be approved by a council meeting and will be accompanied by a municipal bylaw to guarantee its compliance. “The Plan will be rolled out progressively and according to the priorities which are indicated but will be a clear promise, on the part of the Council, to improve and make the town more accessible, something which will benefit all residents”, the Mayor said.
On the part of COCEMFE, Ramón Meseguer insisted that “the fact that we want to have a Municipal Accessibility Plan shows the desire of the Alcala-Alcossebre Council to improve and find solutions and to tackle the problem of accessibility in a global and effective manner”.
