The Alcala-Alcossebre list of trees of local interest has been made into teaching material for the schools
It is part of the Council’s actions to promote and spread knowledge of local natural heritage

Pupils in Alcala-Alcossebre will learn about the catalogue of trees of local interest through new teaching material edited by the Council, which includes a guide for the teacher and cards for the pupils, entitled “Our trees. Environmental education for Infants and Primary Schools”.
The material has been prepared for use in the classroom as well as for use outside with the trees themselves. “Teaching them that there are interesting trees in this catalogue so that they learn how and why they must take care of them and value just how important this part of our natural heritage is”, councillor Alejandra Roca explained. The material shows the most outstanding examples in the municipality, according to various criteria such as historical characteristics, dimensions, iconic character, uniqueness, botanic and landscape interest.

Last week there were staff meetings with the teachers from the CEIP La Mola and the CEIP Lo Campanar, presenting the material to them and encouraging them to take advantage of this educational resource.
Councillor Alejandra Roca said that “the declaration of local trees of interest approved by the Council is not just a document or a simple declaration of intention but something which had given rise to actions which have been given form, such as the drawing up of the catalogue, the signage for the pedestrian route with informative boards and the leaflets which set out the tour routes through the centres of Alcala-Alcossebre, with the trees as the thread to be followed. To this we are now adding this teaching material which will be used for work in our town’s schools”.
