Alcalà de Xivert
Barón Rojo will be the protagonist in the Saint Peter of Verona fiestas
The programme for the Bachelors’ Fiestas includes music, bull spectacles, sport and much more.
The mythical heavy metal band Barón Rojo show will be the main event around which will revolve the 2012 Alcala de Xivert St. Peter of Verona fiestas, also known as the Bachelors’ Fiestas.
The celebrations will officially begin on Thursday, 26th April, although it will not be until the 27th when the Baron’s old aeroplane will fly over Alcala de Xivert once again to conjure up the anthems of a whole generation which knew the strains of the greatest group in the history of Spanish rock from their recordings.
The Rock Festival will be held in the CESAL from 6pm, with the following groups: Masc, Meando Acetona, Methana and, topping the bill at 11pm, Barón Rojo, who will play all the legendary pieces such as Hijos de Caín (Sons of Cain), Cuerdas de Acero (Steel Strings), Concierto para ellos (Concert for them), Resistiré (I will Resist), El Malo (The Evil One), Con Botas Sucias (With Dirty Boots), among other great classics.
Both the beginning and the end of the festival will be accompanied by DJ Garru, DJ Lluen and DJ Machinguer Z.
The Medieval Market will open on Saturday 28th April, and the first “Healthy mind in a healthy body” Marathon will be held in the bull ring. Other events include an American billiards Championship, Table football Championship, Chess Championship and Pingpong Championship. This will be the day for the bulls, when the shadow of the Barón Rojo biplane will be seen in the town’s streets, with the releasing of the bulls from Javier Guardiola’s prestigious herd whose names “Barón” and “Rojo” are an unmistakeable reference to the greatest ever doyens of Spanish heavy metal.
There will be a gathering in the Church Square that night to sing the “albaes” to the festival’s patron, St. Peter of Verona, accompanied by the music of the Alcala de Xivert group of dolçainers and drummers.
On Sunday, the paella competition day, the 4th April Fiestas Walk will take place starting at 8am, organised by the Sierra d’Irta Mountaineering Club.
After the exercise, the Paella Competition will take place, and then there will be a solemn mass at 7pm and procession in honour of St. Peter of Verona.
Monday and Tuesday will be the turn of the children and Alcala F.C. Throughout the fiestas, there will be exhibitions by Manuel Herrera’s herd of cattle.
