Children and chess join hands in Alcala de Xivert
The chess course which the local club has organised, with the cooperation of the Council, came to an end after seeing how well thirty of the town’s youngsters have started this special and interesting sport.
The closing ceremony took place at the Cafeteria Puret, which is also the headquarters of this group and enters body and soul into chess. After a club lunch, José Luís Barreda, president of the club, counted on the presence of Joanba Herrera, Sports Councillor, to present the various awards to the youngsters who had taken part in the course.
Fátima Ben Yassin, Desiree Bosch, Elisa Barreda, David Rozman, Victor Torrens, David Folch, Luis Cherta, Vicente Ferrando, Julia Llorens, Joan Llorens, Lucía Casanova, Juan Pablo Sala, Andrea Cortés, Joan Cortés, Rodrigo Mundo, Cristina Mundo, Erik Bruñó, Guillermo Martínez, Laura Sancho, Ilja Maruzova, Karim Jhabaoui and Ainhoa Martínez were some of those who had taken part in this particular chess school.
The children received their certificates and medals in the midst of a wonderful atmosphere and were enthusiastically applauded.
Joanba Herrera wanted to emphasise the work carried out by the local club to promote chess among the young. “The number of local chess players will be increased by all these young people who have started to learn a sport where intuition, logic and creativity are some of the qualities players develop”, he explained. The Sports Councillor gave advance notice that there would be some surprises during the next patronal fiestas in August with respect to chess: “In due course, we will reveal the theme, but be certain that with the project which the local chess club is working on, we are going to really enjoy ourselves. The Council is helping them to make it a great surprise”.
Finally, prizes were presented to the members of the club who had won at the last Baix Maestrat area tournament.
