[Img #65146]Alcala-Alcossebre Council has prepared a full and varied programme of events for Holy Week and Easter, for local residents to enjoy as well as people who are spending a day in the town or staying in its tourist establishments.

The Tourism councillor, Alejandra Roca, the Culture councillor, María Agut, and Youth councillor, Susan Guillamón, held a press conference to promote the activities on Tuesday, 13th March in the Casa Consistorial.

Alejandra Roca, listed the activities scheduled during March and April by her department, and which begin on Saturday, 24th March with a photographic walking route in the Sierra de Irta.  The best photo will receive a prize but most of all, the event is planned to bring young people closer to nature.

On Wednesday, 28th March there will be family games in the Xivert castle, an activity to learn about the ins and outs of the Templars’ castle.  These will begin at 12:00 hours starting from the castle car park.

On Saturday, 31st March, a 20 kilometres bicycle route will take participants along the lanes, past the fields of fruit trees and fresh water lakes.  It will be an easy route, along level ground, making it accessible for the whole family.

On Sunday 1st April, the highlighted activity will be a dramatised route based on pirate stories in the Sant Antoni hermitage in Capicorb.  Following the great response this activity received last year, it is being repeated.

On Sunday, 15th April, a 5 kilometres/4 hours botanical walk in the Sierra de Irta has been prepared.  Setting off at 10:00 hours from Cala Blanca, participants can enjoy an enjoyable walk through the forest paths and slopes, with magnificent views, while learning about the plants and their ancient uses.

The Tourism councillor said “when we were planning the annual calendar of tourist activities, we considered how to cover the demands of all members of the public, with activities for families but also for those who love walking or the gastronomic tourism”.

Culturally, Alcala-Alcossebre Council, in collaboration with the Castellón Diputación, has planned a concert of Baroque  music in the San Juan Bautista church in Alcala on Sunday, 25th March and another concert on 2nd April in the plaza Vista Alegre in Alcossebre, presented by Fito Fontana.  Alternatively, on Good Friday, for the fifth year,  La Passió per la Trenca will enact the last days of the life of Jesus Christ, performed by local amateur actors and the El Repiquet Grup de Bombos i Tambors.  “We are very happy that this association prepares the event each year, in which so many of our residents take part.  They are supported by the Council and the Provincial Diputación”, María Agut, the Culture councillor said.

Susan Guillamón, the Youth councillor, presented the third year of the Youth Festival, which will be held on Saturday, 14th April in the Espai d’Oci in Alcala de Xivert.  The councillor pointed out that this initiative aims to extend the Holy Week activities, as well as introducing something new with a “sopar de paiporta” as requested, to be followed by two different musical offerings.  On the one hand, the La Cruzada band, and on the other a Tribute to Sabina, offering music to suit all tastes.

For the Third Youth Festival, the Associacio Joves Alc will be working with the council.

During the press conference, Susan Guillamón invited all residents to participate and to enjoy an entertaining party night in the best environment.

Also during the same weekend, the Alcossebre Yankee rally will be held for the second year, a gathering of pure, American trucks and cars.  Following the success of the first time in February last year, for better weather, it has been moved to April on the 13th, 14th and 15th April.  Live music, markets, the roar of powerful engines, a procession around Alcala and great entertainment make up the programme of events for this rally for motoring fans which has already had an excellent welcome, to judge by the large number of those who have registered as Alejandra Roca, the Tourism councillor, confirmed.
