El Prat burning again, 39 days later

Once again, the el Prat Cabanes-Torreblanca Natural Park was a pasture of flames after a new forest fire broke out during the night of 20th March.  It began in the municipality of Torreblanca but early in the morning it had already reached Cabanes.

Just 39 days after 100 hectares of canes and large reeds had burned in February, the fire returned to threaten this natural park.  At the start, two fire engines and two forest fire teams were fighting against the flames without respite, but the difficulty of access to the watery areas and the state of the roads, together with the strong gusts of wind which had been blowing over the area since the previous day, had seriously affected the task of putting the fire out.  They were unable to attack all the active fronts, so that the work of the fire extinction teams was severely limited to the edges of the existing paths and to defending the isolated sheds which were threatened by the advancing flames.

Early on Wednesday morning, the fire-fighting teams, who had worked throughout the night, received assistance from the air fire-fighting services.

The El Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Natural Park, along with other natural spaces in our province, has no current Fire Prevention Plan, as the validity of the plan drawn up in 2006 expired after 10 years. Thus, since 2016 it has become obsolete.  This paper made contact with different offices in the Consellería to learn whether a new plan is being prepared or if measures are being taken in this respect but up to now no response has been received.

Also, Podemos has requested to appear in the court of José María Ángel in the Corts Valencianes, to report regarding this disaster.
