Alcala-Alcossebre Council is investing in two new projects to improve Alcossebre town centre, repairs to the pavements in Las Fuentes and changes in the calle Rench. Both projects are able to be funded out of last year’s funds, as being financially sustainable and able to benefit from savings generated by the council.
The work in calle Rench has a budget of 54,981 euros and will create two new pedestrian areas, removing the current pavement and leaving the whole road at the same level, paved with pressed concrete. This work will improve the aspect of the whole road, which is one of the entrances to the centre of Alcossebre, and will give greater safety on the road for pedestrians who will have two areas to walk along.
Regarding the work in Las Fuentes, with a budget of 48,392 euros, this will be carried out in several areas of the urbanisation, continuing the paving work started in 2016, repairing damage done by the passing of time to the urban facilities which date from various decades and which, also, in some cases, have not been paved. Tree roots have also caused some of the paving to be lifted. Work will be carried out in several sections of the Avenida de Las Fuentes, Avenida Manila from the Paseo Oliveres to the Paseo Columbretes, road access in the Avenida Manila, Paseo Las Golondrinas in Avenida Manila and calle Jai Alai in several sections. The current pavements will be demolished, for them then to be levelled, concreted and terrazzo paved, which will improve the pavements and make them more accessible and safe.

“Both projects have been requested by our residents and, following our aim to engender participation, we have taken into account which are their priorities. Therefore, we would still like your suggestions and for you to tell us what you prefer us to invest the remaining funds generated”, the Mayor Francisco Juan said. Other financially sustainable projects are the new dog parks in Alcala and Alcossebre, the integral improvements to the children’s parks in both towns, a new cyclist/pedestrian track in the playa del Cargador, improvements to the Casa de la Cultura in Alcala, new sound system and parquet in the Alcossebre CESAL, a new Tourist office on playa Romana and extended public lighting in several areas of Alcala and Alcossebre. The total of these projects amounts to 357,591 euros, so that over 700,000 euros remain for new investments, which will be decided upon from among residents’ proposals.
