Costas gives the green light to the Alcala-Alcossebre Council for improvements to accessibility and the Coastal Walkway

The Alcala-Alcossebre Council already had permission from the Environmental Ministry to carry out the renovation and improvement to accessibility in the Cami L’Atall foot path which runs along the Romana Beach in Alcossebre, and is better known as the Coastal Path.  On 13th April, the Mayor, Francisco Juan, received a communication from David Barelles, Government Sub-delegate, confirming that the authorisation has now been received by the Jefatura Provincial de Costas from the General Management of Coastal Sustainability, following several meetings in the Environment Ministry and in the Government Sub-delegation itself, the last one just a few days ago, for the work to proceed.

The Pathway is in a very poor state due to the material with which it was surfaced by the Ministry.  The Council had urged that it needed a firmer surface, which would withstand rain and use and so guarantee correct accessibility and a path for people with reduced mobility, baby buggies, etc.  As it dealt with an area under public marine-terrestrial control, the Council could not carry out renovation work without the Ministry’s permission.  The work affects 1,500 sq.metres along a path which is approximately 650 metres long by 2.5 metres wide.

Mayor Francisco Juan stated that “it was a priority for us to be able to carry out the work in this area as, with the existing surface it was very difficult to traverse certain sections.  Therefore we urged the Ministry to give us the authorisation so that we, the council itself, could carry out the work which we are now going to do as soon as possible”.
