The Castellón Diputación is contributing 50,000 euros to the works to renovate the drainage works being carried out by the Alcala de Xivert Council in Alcossebre to prevent another spillage happening like last summer which led to swimming being prohibited on the Las Fuentes beach and damage to visitors as well as to the tourism sector. The Presidente of the Diputación, Javier Moliner, visited the area with the town’s mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, to learn more for himself about the current stage of the works.
Moliner stated that “we are aware that the Alcossebre beaches are not only a very important source of resources and for the future and for progress for residents of this municipality, but also that they are for the whole province and we must give our visiting tourists the best facilities”.
Continuing with this, Moliner explained that “I have evidence that there has been great concern in the Alcala-Alcossebre Council to resolve this problem and the least the Provincial Government could do was to be at their side from the very start, supporting them, so that these concerns can be resolved looking for a future solution. Together we will find a solution which cannot be seen but which is marking the quality of the service”.
The Council has been working intensely to find the origin of the spillage, inspecting the drainage network, carrying out tests in installations and wells in addition to carrying out the installation of mechanisms to remove spillage, which has meant it has had to face a series of unforeseen financial costs.
For this reason, Francisco Juan Mars explained that “we have already taken some measures and we are going to carry out various actions in the Las Fuentes area. We have not only carried out these works, but are also continuing studies and watching for spillage to try to detect any type of problem and prevent leaks. These are works which cannot be seen but which are very necessary, and in which the Diputación has been at our side to resolve any problem detected”.
The mayor stated that “the cost of this work, some 50,000 euros, will be financed by the Diputación. And what we are aiming for is that by renovating the drainage and improving the pipes, we shall prevent there being any more leaks. All this work is in response to our vocation and aim of continuing to be a first class tourist destination
