Alcala will celebrate San Antonio on 20th and Alcossebre on 26th and 27th January
In both centres, mass will be held and the traditional animal procession
Alcala de Xivert will celebrate the festival of San Antonio with various events in both town centres. In Alcala, the events are organised by the ‘mayoralesas’, this year ladies of the “Cor Capella dels Desemparats”, and will take place on Sunday, 20th January. At 11.30h, there will be a mass celebrated in honour of the saint and, at the end, the procession will pass through the various streets in the town’s historic centre, definitely with animals taking part as well as the traditional carts drawn by animals which traditionally work in the fields. At the end, cakes and muscatel will be available.
In Alcossebre, the celebrations will begin on Saturday, 26th, with volunteers collecting wood and then building the bonfire in front of the church. The day will end with a “bring your own” supper and the music duo performing, in the calle Rench in front of the medical centre. On Sunday 27th, there will be a mass, the procession with the people and their pets and the sharing of cakes and muscatel.
Alcala-Alcossebre Council is cooperating in the organization, in order to keep alive the tradition of celebrating this festival.
