The new pathway for pedestrians and cyclists along the Cargador Beach sea front is almost completed and will make a noticeable change to the area. From being a space where vehicles circulated it will become a restricted area marked by two sections covered with different coloured asphalt: one wider, coloured ochre, for pedestrians and the other green for cyclists. It thus complies with the criteria for mobility and sustainability set out by official bodies which impose limits on the use of vehicles along the sea front to maintain quality awards such as the blue flags.
To resolve the problem of where to park the vehicles which many people use to get to the beach, the work has been completed by preparing a new parking area, as well as a small roundabout to regulate the traffic – as by building the area for cyclists and pedestrians vehicles can no longer drive to the La Coloma river bed.
Mayor Francisco Juan stated that “it is a priority to adapt all along the sea front, completing areas which as yet are not pedestrianised, aiming to extend a long pedestrian walkway which will go from the lighthouse to Capicorb”. Juan explained that “in the case of the Cargador beach, for those people who have to travel to the beach in their vehicle, there will be a car park for parking”. The work has cost 49,994 euros.
