Alcala-Alcossebre Council has reached an agreement with a construction company for the free transfer of a plot situated between the Cargador and Romana beaches, in the area known as Roquer Mart’I, with the aim of it becoming a free car park. The idea arose from the need to incorporate a new area for parking vehicles near the beaches. This action is in parallel with those adding value and improving the sea front in Alcossebre from the lighthouse to Capicorb, with recent actions such as the construction of a cycle/pedestrian space in the Cargador paseo, a pedestrian area and another cycle track near the Jaume I Camp-site and the improvement to the paving along the length of the Coastal Path, making it totally accessible.
“We had continued improving all along the sea front, giving pedestrians and cyclists priority, so that it became necessary to provide solutions for people who travel to the beach by car, to park”, Mayor Francisco Juan explained.
Work to prepare the plot will commence shortly as it is planned to come into operation during Holy Week. The land will be cleared, levelled and the parking places marked out. According to technical studies, it would be able to accommodate up to 100 vehicles.
The council has thanked the company for its cooperation and willingness to transfer the plot for as long as it is not built on.
