Alcala-Alcossebre Municipal council meeting discusses an institutional declaration requesting improvements to the train services in the Baix Maestrat

On Wednesday, 27^th March, during the Alcala-Alcossebre Council ordinary meeting, the request was discussed for improvement to the train services in the Baix Maestrat department.  Proposed by the Trens Dignes al Maestrat e Indignats amb RENFE, the four municipal groups joined together in an institutional declaration urging central government to increase investment in the local and medium distance rail services directed at staff, infrastructures and maintenance, with the objective of avoiding the delays and timetable changes which happen currently.  They also requested a reduction in prices for all types of transport, that season tickets for 10 journeys should have an annual validity and not be monthly and that other tickets should be made available to incentivise the use of the train for people who travel to their place of work or study.  Other points are that the ticket checking points should be kept open during rush hours; that architectural barriers should be removed from all stations; that communications regarding incidents be improved and that there should be a unified means of collecting complaints and suggestions; that coordination between Adif and Renfe should be improved; an increase to the 16 trains between Castellón and Vinaròs; the reopening and bringing into service stations such as those at Santa Magdalena de Pulpis and la Ribera de Cabanes and, in general, an improvement in how the service operates.

In the case of Alcala, the station reopened last November, after being closed for 17 years, coinciding with the increase in the Vinaròs-Castellón service, which would be an important improvement for local residents who regularly travel to the province’s capital as well as to other places in the area.
