Are you thinking about renewing your industrial equipment with a new lobe pump? Do you know how these rotary pumps work? What type of sectors are they used in? Lobe pumps have many uses within the industrial sector and water treatment, among other activities. Below, we show you the different types of lobe pump that you currently find in the market and its main applications.

What lobe pump do you need?

Within the current catalogue of lobe pumps and fluid handing equipment, we find two main categories: industrial lobe pumps and sanitary lobe pumps. Each one is indicated for certain uses and pressures of work, so, before choosing, it is always advisable to request the opinion of lobe pumps manufacturers that knows your sector of activity and its specific needs.

Industrial lobe pumps

What differentiates an industrial lobe pump from a sanitary lobe pump? The industrial lobe pumps are made of ferritic or austenitic stainless steel and have rubber or metal rotors. This type of lobe pump is suitable for flow rates from 10 to 120 m3 / hour and working pressures of up to 18 bar. The industrial rotary lobe pumps work with fluids with viscosities of up to 100,000 cPs, with an excellent performance with fluids with solids in suspension of up to 50 millimetres in diameter.

Sanitary lobe pumps

With flow rates from 500 to 40,000 l / h and working pressures of up to 12 bar, the best option is a sanitary lobe pump. Thanks to their constructive characteristics, these lobe pumps can work with liquids of any viscosity and their maintenance is very simple.

Main applications and activity sectors

·         Lobe pumps for water treatment

The industrial lobe pump has many applications within the sector of water treatment, sludge and sludge, MBR filtration, marine spills, contaminated water or petroleum residues.

·         Chemical industry

An industrial lobe pump allows to work with abrasive liquid fluids, such as those used in the chemical industry for the manufacture of detergents, glues, inks or paints. This type of lobe pump is also used in the pharmaceutical industry, in products such as injectables, saline solutions and all kinds of liquid medicines.

·         Food industry

This sector must comply with a strict quality control, which guarantees that the products reach the hands of the consumers in optimal conditions. The pumps and fluid handing equipment must offer a totally aseptic work environment, free of contamination. In this sector, we can find both industrial lobe pumps and sanitary lobe pumps

The former is recommended for sectors such as the wine industry, olive oil, the production of glucose, pasta or tomato concentrate, etc. For its part, sanitary lobe pumps are more suitable for the dairy industry and the manufacture of all kinds of jams, juices, oils and glucose, creams, mayonnaises, etc.

·         Drugstore, cosmetics and ceramics

In this case, the most recommended option is a sanitary lobular pump, commonly used in the preparation of creams, shampoos and perfumes, essential oils, detergents and toothpaste or ceramic slip.

In addition to the activity sector, when you are looking for a new lobe pump it is important to assess and define your specific needs. Before choosing, consult your lobe pump manufacturer about the technical specifications that your new industrial equipment must meet, taking into account your particular circumstances.
