On Monday, 26th August, the new British company Skyborne Airline Academy pilot training school opened at Castellón airport. It is the second training centre with its headquarters in the Castellón airport facilities.
Aerocas general director, Joan Serafí Bernat, and the airport director, Ivana Guinot, welcomed the first intake of cadets, who all come from the United Kingdom and who had joined the training programme to obtain the airline transport European license.
The Aerocas director expressed his satisfaction at the opening of the flying academy “as it reinforces the airport’s diversification of activities strategy, it brings with it the creation of highly qualified jobs and enables the facilities to be linked with the future pilots and professionals in the sector”.
Skyborne plans to receive some 60 male and female trainees in its first year of operation at Castellón. This number will increase to 120 students after three years.
The British company will base four Diamond DA40 aircraft for the present course and will continue increasing the fleet gradually until it reaches 11 aircraft in the third year. During this time, the business envisages adding a total of 20 workers to its staff in Castellón, between instructors and operations staff.
Skyborne chief operating officer, Ian Cooper, has pointed out that Castellón airport and its surroundings “offer magnificent conditions for carrying out training”. He stated that therefore it is the intention of his company “to grow over future years in this airport”.
Skyborne has become the second pilot academy to open a base in Castellón airport. Currently, about a hundred students from the Panamedia school are carrying out their practices at the facilities and the company has a hangar for aircraft maintenance. Recently, an agreement has also been signed with the Airpull Aviation pilot school, based in Requena, to carry out training at Castellón airport.
