Alcala-Alcossebre Council applied the Territorial Municipal Emergency Plan – PTM – which had already been approved by the Valencian Agency for Safety and Emergencies Response and only required endorsement from the Valencian Community Civil Protection Committee, to come into official effect.  Before the Warning was declared by the Emergencies Coordination Centre, for the arrival of DANA – as set out in the PTM, the protocol for action had been followed as a precaution when facing flooding and strong winds.  The Mayor Francisco Juan – Director of the PTM – called a meeting of the committee charged with following it, attended by the Services, Police, Health and Town Planning Departments and followed instructions such as the placing of signs in floodable roads and planning the removal of elements which could make circulation difficult such as branches and street furniture.  The Services Department indicated that all the river beds and the drains had been cleared.

During the meeting, they decided to suspend the festivities in Alcossebre as the fiestas were due to start on Wednesday and it was decided to delay assembling the tented area in the Paseo Marítimo because with the forecast of strong winds and high seas, it would have been dangerous to set up the tents.  They also suspended the planned events:  children’s workshops in the plaza Vista Alegre, the local associations’ procession, the opening of the festival area in the Paseo Marítimo and the 80 Principals concert.  “The strong wind and the storm made the assembly of the area impossible and we did not want a repeat of what had happened on previous occasions when the wind destroyed the installations so, as a precaution and following the decisions of the experts, we decided not proceed with the setting up and to suspend the planned events”, the Mayor said.
