The construction of the new Alcossebre Santa Lucía hermitage Ethnological Interpretation Centre is complete and now work is being carried out to put the exhibition equipment, such as showcases and displays, in place.  The educational and information material, including models and panels, as well as the archaeological artefacts which will be on display, are all being finalised.  The exhibition space will be completed with a screen showing an explanatory video.

The works included fitting out the annex to the hermitage as a visitors’ reception area and exhibition space showing the important archaeological work carried out at the Santa Lucía hermitage.  Thanks to the extracted materials, archaeological experts have been able to learn how the ancient inhabitants of the site lived from the Bronze Age onwards and the different vicissitudes they had to endure throughout history.  This project makes the most of the area’s potential – the landscape, heritage and history – making it a visitors’ reception centre and promoting it as a new tourist attraction, underg the guidelines of the Tourism Strategic Plan.

The project, drafted and carried out by the Alcala-Alcossebre Council, is included in the Valencian Community FEDER operating programme, with 50,692 euros and was included in the assistance for local projects section for the protection, conservation and recuperation of Valencian cultural heritage assets.

Alcala-Alcossebre Mayor, Francisco Juan, had visited the works, and said that “we have been working to convert the Santa Lucía hermitage into a reference focal attraction since 1996, including the landscaping, the panoramic viewing platform and now culturally with this new Interpretation centre, which consolidates our position among the province’s archaeological spaces”.
