Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre to be the first town in Castellón to have Natural Gas without a gas pipeline

The company Gas Natural has chosen Alcala de Xivert and its coastal nucleus Alcossebre to develop a pioneering experiment to supply gas to its residents.  The plan for the project is to install two supply plants, one for Alcala and the other for Alcossebre, which will be able to supply what is known as “town gas” to residents.  This will mean that Alcala-Alcossebre will become the first town in Castellón province to have its own supply of natural gas.
Local mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, expressed his satisfaction with the project which Gas Natural is tackling:  “we are looking at work and a great challenge for the current legislature.  It is remarkable that this important company has chosen us as pioneers in the province, as we have great potential and when the supply of natural gas is up and running, residents, visitors and, most importantly, businesses in the tourism sector, will see the benefits of this service”.
Gas Natural will invest about a million Euros in this project, of which about half will be used for building the two satellite plants, whilst the rest will be used for channelling the gas to homes.  Both plants will be taken down when the final gas pipeline comes to the town.
Regarding the timescale for this new service, José Colom, Alcala Council’s Town Planning councillor, confirmed that “the project has already been presented to Industry and after the summer, the first construction work could begin on the natural gas supply plants.  The plants will hold gas tanks and the gas will be supplied from them, without the need for gas to be brought in to the towns through a pipeline.
