Alcala-Alcossebre approves an institutional statement for local transport companies to circulate along the National 340

Having received the request from lorry drivers and local companies, Alcala-Alcossebre Council approved an institutional statement to request the Infrastructures Ministry to allow lorries with four or more axles to circulate along the N340, towards the access to the AP-7 taking into account the entrance and exit of the vehicle and the driver and the place where the goods are loaded and unloaded.  Currently, these types of vehicles are prohibited from using the N340 between Torreblanca and L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, so that if they need to go north it means using more fuel and takes longer to get to the entrance of the AP-7 in Torreblanca.  They ask that, starting from Alcala de Xivert, they should be able to travel to the AP-7 entrance in Peñíscola.  Also, on their return, and want to reach Alcala de Xivert travelling from the north, they can exit from the Peñíscola entrance and not from Torreblanca.  This measure would also have positive financial repercussions for filling stations and restaurants along the section between Alcala de Xivert and Peñíscola which, currently, have been affected by these vehicles being prohibited along this section.

Mayor Francisco Juan explained that “we are picking up a problem brought to us by the local transport companies and we hope that there will be a positive response from the Infrastructures Ministry”.  It is hoped that other Councils in the region will join this initiative.

In the institutional statement they also remember the frequent requests made by the Council to the Infrastructures Ministry for a new entrance to be created to the AP-7 in the Alcala de Xivert municipality, in view of the plan to make the AP-7 toll-free and considering the important benefits it would mean for the municipality: an improvement to the communications with the El Campaner industrial park, improvement to road safety, etc.
