Alcala-Alcossebre Fiestas Department agrees that the 2019 Festeras will continue and this year’s will be moved to 2021

This year, the Alcala-Alcossebre patronal fiestas, planned for the 21^st to 31^st August in Alcala and from the 9^th to the 13^th September in Alcossebre, will be affected by the exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and work is continuing in the Fiestas Department to redefine them, aiming to be able to include events which can be held complying with the health conditions.  For this, following various online meetings held with the 2019 Festeras and with the young people who wanted to be Festeras this year, it was agreed that the 2019 Festeras should prolong their roles during 2020 and that this year’s candidates should be those in the roles in 2021, with no objections to other young people who may be interested in being added next year as festeros and festeras.  “In this way, the 2019 festeras can take part in events which have not been held this year and which belonged to their mandate and those which were going to be festeros in 2020 will be able to enjoy the crowds and traditional fiestas in 2021”, Jordi Batiste, the head of Fiestas, emphasised.

“At the moment, we have received no firm instructions on what regulations may be in force in August but we already understand that we shall have to continue adopting distancing measures so that the events attracting large crowds will not be possible.  Therefore, we are working to organise an alternative festival programme, adapted to what we are allowed to carry out”, the Fiestas councillor explained.  “We are also in direct contact with the Comisión Taurina to find out how the restrictions and regulations are to be applied to the events with the bulls and exactly what type of events we will be able to hold”, he specified.
