Alcossebre summer market is returning, but will be adapted to the safety and hygiene measures necessary because of COVID-19, changing where it is and reducing the number of stalls. From 30th June, the market will no longer be situated in the camino L’Atall along the Paseo Maritimo and the area of Las Fuentes as in other years, but will occupy the car parking area in the calle Jai Alai, next to the Las Fuentes paseo. This change of situation is due to the fact that the streets where the market used to be are not big enough to guarantee the measures demanded by the health authorities to guarantee social distancing and capacity control.
Also, by changing direction of the accesses to the Las Fuentes marina, with vehicles entering from the south roundabout, it became difficult to continue in the same place. By situating the market in the car parking area, it will be possible to make a perimeter fence with accesses through two entrances and exits which will be controlled by the Local Police, calculating the number of people who come in and allowing the capacity to be controlled.
Another modification to the market will be the reduction of the number of stalls, opting for maintaining food products stalls, following the guidelines set out by the health authorities. “This market brings together a large number of people, generating many crowds of people in very few square metres. This meant that on numerous occasions the Local Police had to intervene to regulate them and ensure correct operation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that this summer, it is most important to guarantee everyone’s safety, both for our residents and for the people who come here and therefore we are adopting these measures. Guaranteeing safety and social distancing is above everything else”, Business councillor Miguel Martorell emphasised.
