Alcala market has been extended to include the sale of all types of goods

The weekly Friday market, which due to the COVID-19 was limited to selling only food products, from 17th July, it includes stalls for the sale of all types of goods: textiles, shoes, household items and home wares, jewellery, etc. All stalls which do not sell foodstuffs have been divided into two groups and each Friday only one group of stalls will operate, with each group alternating week by week. With this measure, the stalls can will spread out more and therefore increase safety and distance between the people, with stalls only on one side of the road.
Food stalls will continue to be situated in the Ricardo Cardona square whist the rest of the goods will be in their usual place, with the exception of those stalls which were situated in the upper part of the San Fernando street, which will be moved to the San Roque street, because it is wider.
The capacity will be watched over by the Local Police and the use of a mask within the market will be mandatory. All stalls must have hand sanitiser gel available and apply all the hygiene measures to guarantee the safety of buyers and sellers. The articles which the buyers touch or test, will have to be disinfected by the stallholders to comply with the regulation demanded by the Consellería.
Business Department head Miguel Martorell stated that “with this initiative, we are trying to take one more step towards normality, giving access to residents of Alcalà de Xivert and Alcossebre to this type of much requested traditional purchase and, at the same time, restoring sales in the centre of the town” and emphasised that “people must be aware of the current situation where we are able to continue carrying out the majority of our day to day activities, but maximising hygiene and distance precautions”.
