Alcala-Alcossebre socialist party criticises the fact that the Tourist Office remains closed in the high tourist season

Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre socialist party has said that it is unhappy about the fact that the Tourist Office in the centre of Alcala de Xivert still remains closed, even at the end of July, during the high tourist season.  “It is truly outrageous that the governing group should keep the tourist information kiosk closed at this time.  There is much which has started the tourist campaign and tourists have returned to visit us” the group councillor, Tina Arnau, noted.

Arnau explained that the residents of Alcala are “tired of seeing lost visitors, trying to find out when they can be served in an information kiosk, and wanting to visit our monuments and go up the bell tower”.  “This situation means that everyone is feeling that, one of the principal resources and reasons for visiting the town, is not open to the public, and that there is no-one to inform them and tell them about the municipality”, the socialist councillor argues.

The head of tourism, Selene Blázquez, wanted to quickly deny these declarations assuring that due to the health alert caused by COVID-19 “we decided that for the time being we would keep the kiosks situated in the centre of Alcala and on the Romana beach, closed”.  “Although the offices may be open or closed, all the  tourist information is on the outside with QR code access” Blázquez added.

Regarding visits to the monuments, the Tourism councillor stated that “the church cannot be visited.  We are sending a proposal for an agreement to the bishop’s office and as yet we have not received a reply” and on this subject “the bell tower can be visited with staff taken on to carry out the routes twice a week”.

The municipal socialist group on the other hand complains that whilst months later, many selection processes have been set in motion in other departments, including different terms for the Alcossebre Tourist Office, “it seems that the Alcala destination was not urgent”.  Now, at the end of July, the selection process has just begun for the person to work in this tourist information kiosk, something which they regret delays its opening still more.  “As the selection process has not yet happened, why has no-one been sent there from those taken on for Alcossebre to open, even though it might only be at weekends?”

Selene Blázquez assures that “we hope for the resolution of the grant from the Castellón Diputación and we wanted to prioritise the Alcossebre office because they have a greater volume of work”.

Finally the municipal socialist group also criticised the state in which the information kiosk has been left, “dirty and paint left on for years, and that nothing has been done to prepare it”; Blázquez for her part assures that “we have not left dealing with the kiosk because the Bell Tower is a bic, but we are working on the possibility of adapting a new one to replace it” she ended.
