The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Town Planning has replied to the letter sent by Mayor Francisco Juan to minister Ábalos setting out the various matters affecting the municipality, such as the request for a new link with the AP-7, improvement to road safety on the N-340 and allowing the town’s transport companies to travel along the section of the AP-7 between Torreblanca and Peñíscola.

The reply came from the General Management Direction that they are continuing to carry out a pre-study of traffic and the needs for action in the Network of State Roadways “to accommodate the request for the new circumstances of exploitation of the AP-7, evaluating alternative improvements and establishing the priority of the programme” and he emphasised that “new links and adaptations to the current ones” are still to be defined.  He also advised that “the Ministry could approve new accesses at the request of third parties, in this case the promotor of the request taking on the costs associated with carrying them out”.  On this matter, Mayor Francisco Juan expressed his surprise as “before the liberalisation of the AP-7 it was announced that the Generalitat Valenciana and the Ministry had drawn up a protocol for the construction of new accesses and had gone as far as announcing this and now they are replying to us from the Ministry that it still has to be defined”.

Regarding safety on the N-340 road, according to the Dirección General “we are drawing up two improvement projects for the PPKK 101-1022 and 1027-1031 sections which are being driven as part of the road needs programme”.  The Mayor reminded that “over two years ago, these projects were already being drawn up so I asked that they be speeded up as the safety of my residents is at stake”.

Regarding the request to let the local transport companies stop travelling along the N-340, a new request was sent to the Dirección General de Tráfico, as being the competent body on this matter, asking whether local transport companies can be added to the current exemptions on goods vehicles starting or arriving in an affected locality and drivers with homes in a locality affected by the detour.
