Castellón airport receives the second Boeing 747-400 for dismantling and is preparing a new parking area

Castellón airport anticipates receiving up to four Boeing 747-400 aircraft for dismantling.  On 31st August the second of these aircraft landed, adding it to the one which arrived on 18th August.  Also, work has started on preparations for a new aircraft parking area.

Coinciding with the arrival of the Boeing 747-400, the Territorial, Mobility and Public Works Policy councillor, Arcadi Espa  a, went to Castellón airport, where he visited the e-Cube Solutions company, dedicated to the aircraft parking and dismantling activities.  Together with the councillor were the autonomous secretary for public Works and Mobility, María Pérez, and the general director of Ports, Airport and Coast, Emili Obiol.

e-Cube senior staff told the councillor about the company’s support in dismantling four Boeing 747-400 aircraft in Castellón which it has acquired after they were retired from circulation by British Airways airline.

Arcadi España reminded that this historic aircraft, commonly known as “Jumbo”, is one of the largest commercial aircraft models in the world and that for decades it was a symbol for aviation.

“The dismantling of these large size aircraft reinforces the airport’s industrial significance and allows us to continue advancing the strategy for diversification of activity, in cooperation with the private sector”, he explained.

Alternatively, the councillor advised that the e-Cube company has started the work prior to preparing a new aircraft parking apron, which will cover an area of 21,550 sq. metres and will meet the plans for the company’s expansion.  The apron will have enough capacity to receive between 15 and 20 aircraft of different sizes and it is planned that the work will take a month and a half.

Also, during the next weeks, it is planned that the construction work for the aircraft maintenance centre will start, driven by the Brok-air company.  The hangar will occupy an area of 2,500 sq. metres and is designed to receive Boeing B737, Airbus A320 and ATR aircraft.  The forecast is that it will enter into operation at the end of this year.

Arcadi España also remembered that, soon, the construction work for the airport’s new industrial area will be awarded, an area which will focus on the aircraft parking, dismantling and maintenance activities which are already being carried out and will enable the arrival of new investments.

The councillor emphasised the airport’s capacity “to activate new projects in a context as complex as the current one, as the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the aviation sector really hard”.  “The objective it to reinforce the income from the services and increase the range of activities so that the airport can consolidate itself as a valuable economic centre for services in the territory”, he explained.
