The Mayor of Alcala-Alcossebre requests the Provincial Diputación to increase the plans for direct assistance to the municipalities in 2021
Francisco Juan, the Mayor of Alcala-Alcossebre, has sent a written request to the president of the Provincial Diputación, José Martí, asking the provincial body to redefine its policy for support to the municipalities and adapt new plans for direct assistance for 2021. Juan pointed out that “it is more necessary than ever for the Diputación to set in motion new plans for direct assistance so that each municipality can use it for the specific matters which affect them. We cannot remain with just one Plan 135 or just one Plan for Works and Services as more than ever we municipalities need the support of the rest of the institutions and the closest is the Diputación which has the financial resources to do it”.
As examples of the specific matters which Alcala-Alcossebre would have to handle with this direct contribution are: the cost to the Council of school transport for the pupils of the Serra d’Irta Secondary School in non-obligatory teaching who travel from Alcossebre, because the Generalitat Valenciana does not do it: surveillance in rural areas to prevent thefts during harvesting and actions linked to environmental sustainability.
Juan reminded about the uniqueness of Alcala-Alcossebre, with two town nuclei with very different problems: “in the case of Alcala, matters which affect inland municipalities, such as depopulation, and in that of Alcossebre, the problems of coastal municipalities, very closely related with the financial crisis driven by the pandemic. In the same way that our municipality is suffering these very specific matters, in other municipalities they will have other different matters and therefore it is basic that each town should decide how and in what to invest new direct assistance from the Diputación. This new financial assistance which we would receive during 2021 would be used to cover necessities and investments for those matters which we cannot handle alone and for which other administrations do not lend us their assistance”.
