More than three hundred people take part in the Race up to Santa Lucia
The first “Puja
a Santa Llucia” was a complete success, as the more than three hundred people
confirmed who took part in it this year.
The weather also joined in and Sunday dawned with ideal conditions for
the athletes.
The Amics de les
Curses Populars organised the event to perfection. It had promised to be attractive and ended up
being just that. Many of those who took
part in the race came from other places and enjoyed the authentic visual
spectacle which this climb to the Santa Lucía chapel offered. The whole race passed through very beautiful
places.
The men’s winner
was José Angel Ebrí. He was accompanied
on the podium by Javier Lozano and Sergio Sánchez. Of the ladies, Silvia Sos came out in front
of Marta Pons and Marta Nelia Lluch.
There was also a
large contingent of local people taking part in this first Puja a Santa
Llucia. Close to José Angel Ebrí, the
overall winner, the best local contestants were Vicent Guillamón and Carlos
Adell. Of the ladies, the three first
local runners were Mari Carmen Traver, Raquel Cherta and Estibaliz Vidal.
At the end, the
La Mola Square, which was also where the race started, was the perfect place
for the runners to aim for, get their strength back and applaud the
winners. The event was supported by the
Alcala de Xivert Council, through the Sports department.
The next sports
event in Alcossebre will be held on the 8th September with the
second 10K Race which was such a great success last year.
