The Castelló Futur team wins the First Lo Campanar Junior Football Tournament
In an exciting final against Vinaros, the Futur Castelló team ended up winning the first Lo Campanar juniors tournament, which took place on 9th December with over a hundred 10 and 11 years old players taking part.
Besides the Futur Castelló, the eight teams of youngsters were from Vinaros, Alcala, San Mateo, Onda, the Burriana Salesianos, Esportiu Vila-real and Alcossebre.
The final to find the third and fourth teams in the event, was won by Esportiu Vila-real, who beat the Onda team.
All the players in the tournament, which the Alcala de Xivert Council sponsored, received gifts and the Futur team, besides the champion’s trophy, also received a replica of the Alcala Bell Tower which gives its name to the tournament.
The 8 to 9 year olds turn
From 9am on Sunday morning the younger group of players had their turn. Alcala started as the hosts, with teams from Onda, Futur Castell, Ulldecona, Esportiu Vila-real, Vinarós, Salesianos Burriana and Torreblanca. During the morning there were over 100 youngsters fighting to win a place in their group in the Lo Campanar tournament.
The morning proved to be a real festival of sport with the San Fernando pitch full of people there to cheer on the youngsters. Esportiu Vila-real beat Vinaros in an exciting final and were the tournament champions. The other teams were placed in this order – Alcala, Futur Castellón, Ulldecona, Onda, Torreblanca and Salesianos Burriana.
The great success of the event, organised to give the young players a great time, gave all the fans the opportunity of watching them play on both days.
Francisco Juan, the mayor of Alcala de Xivert, presented the trophies with every single player receiving a gift. At the end of the competition Francisco Juan assured everyone that they had all put on a great performance. “It has been a real delight to see more than a hundred children on the pitch playing the matches with all the enthusiasm in the world. Sport should be a constant in these young people’s lives and we will always support initiatives of this kind”, he explained.
A total of 16 teams had taken part in the first year of this tournament held on the San Fernando football pitch in Alcala de Xivert, and according to the mayor, “it has won the right to be held here again”.
On behalf of the Alcala Football Club, Manuel Gil, the Chairman, wanted to thank everyone for their support. “The tournament had been organised by the club, but we must thank the Council for their support, our patrons such as Romana Beach and Bruño, and the media and young volunteers who have spent two days working to ensure that everything ran smoothly”
Christmas Match
The next date for football in Alcala will be the Christmas Match organised by Tecnofutesport in collaboration with the Council and the football club. This will take place from the 26th to the 30th December and can be found at http://www.tecnifutesport.com where anyone interested can sign up.
