The Provincial Hospital Foundation received 50,000 Euros from the “Ayuda a Nico” Association.
On the 1st December the Provincial Hospital Foundation in Castellón received a donation of 50,000 Euros from the “Help for Nico” Association, which will be used for research, study, training and preparation in the fight against cancer.
The Association was set up by Nico Quintero who was diagnosed at the age of two with a neuroblastoma, a cancer which starts in the nervous system and has abdominal effects.
The Association’s aim was to collect funds so that Nico could receive treatment in the United States. Unfortunately, the youngster died last April in Madrid at the age of seven years, which is why his parents, José Quintero and Yolanda Ortega have decided to give some of the amount collected to the Provincial Hospital Foundation, so that their research into cancer can go deeper.
The donation was made before the notary in Alcossebre and was attended by Nico’s mother, the Foundation’s general director, Diego Castell, and the administrator, Miguel Llorens.
Castell and Llorens expressed their thanks to Nico’s parents for the donation which will be used to further the research activity, as well as the training to learn the pioneering technical work which will be set up in the Provincial Hospital.
Yolanda Ortega, Nico’s mother, stated that “the Castellón Provincial Hospital gave us so much help, as at the worst moments during our son’s illness they organised all the procedures and management to get Nico into a centre in Madrid, helping us so that we had nothing to worry about and could concentrate totally on our son”. This help persuaded them that the Foundation should be one of the organisations to benefit from the altruistic donations which the Help for Nico Association is making.
Diego Castell, the director of the Foundation, thanked the parents for the donation, as “all this money will be used for projects linked to the research into and treatment of cancer”, as this organisation is the body which sets up and encourages research activity in the Castellón Provincial Hospital Consortium, promotes the training of medical and health staff so that they learn about pioneering treatments, invests in new technologies and manages obtaining assistance and public grants for research. “We go to other countries to carry out studies and this money is to be invested precisely in this training”, Castell explained.
Nico’s mother confirmed that “the 36,000 euros which the association still holds will be given to the Provincial Fight Against Cancer Assocation. We will thus close this chapter”. These funds will be shared between the provincial, national and, of course, the local Alcala de Xivert Committees. This new donation will be formally signed for in front of the notary in the next few days.
