Alcala de Xivert Council is refurbishing the former slaughter house to install the municipal archives there.

The work is being carried out by a local company.

The former Alcala de Xivert municipal slaughter house is being converted into the centre for the municipal archives, in a project with an investment of more than 12,000 euros.  As the mayor of Alcala de Xivert, Francisco Juan Mars, explained, “once the project was ready we did not want to delay the work any longer and the work on changing the building has already started”.
He also explained the reasons which had led them to think of moving the archives to this new installation.  “The archives were in a building which did not belong to the Council and for which we were paying rent, so we decided to relocate them into a municipal building and thus save on paying the rent”.
The Alcala de Xivert Council wanted to point out the other benefit of this initiative, that of creating employment, as the work is being carried out by a local company.  “We want to continue encouraging local contracts, so that our residents are not unaffected by the grave crisis situation we are going through”.
It is hoped that the work will be finished shortly and the transfer will be completed in mid March.  And as the new municipal archives will take up only part of the building, the rest of the space will be available for the council to use for other things as well.
