Alcalà de Xivert
“Lo Xular” opens two exhibitions as a precursor to the 14th Gathering of the Valencian Federation of Pipes and Drums Groups
Celebrations started on the 1st June to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Alcala de Xivert “Lo Xular” group of pipes and drums.
To start, two exhibitions opened in the CESAL, with municipal officers, members of “Lo Xular” and a large number of townspeople present. The exhibitions showed “Our festival’s sweet instrument” and photographs showing the history of the “20 years of the Lo Xular group of pipes and drums”.
There was then a concert presented jointly by the “Lo Xular” Group and the Alcala de Xivert Asociación Musical Santa Cecilia with the premiere of the piece composed specially by Vicent Obiol dedicated to the Alcala group with the title “Lo Xular”.
Then on Saturday, 8th June, there will be the gathering itself, when it is expected that 21 groups from all over the Valencian Community will take part, bringing more than 300 people together.
There will be a full programme during the day with visits to the principal local historical buildings, culminating in the evening with the groups gathering in the CESAL square prior to processing through the town’s streets to the Church Square, where there will be a lot of surprises for the audience as well as the joint performance by all the groups of the “Lo Xular” piece.
