Massive attendance at the Alcala de Xivert Rally of Pipes and Drums Groups

The 14th Annual Rally of Groups of Pipes and Drums in the Valencian Federation, organised by the Alcala “Lo Xular” group attracted 25 groups from throughout the Valencian Community and they filled the streets of Alcala de Xivert with music.

Saturday, 8th June, was the perfect end to a week full of activities, exhibitions and workshops celebrating the 20th anniversary of the “Lo Xular” group.

The evening started with a procession through the streets of Alcala de Xivert ending in an enormous gathering in the Church Square.  Each group taking part entered the square playing a piece. 

Then all the groups were thanked for coming and the clubs which had actively helped with the gathering, such as the Alcala Band, the Traditional Dance Group, and the “El Repiquet” drum band, were all acknowledged and thanked.

María Agut, Culture Councillor in Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Council, welcomed everyone and thanked them for all their work.  “I hope that you have enjoyed coming to our town” she said to the participating groups.

And there was no doubt that, for the event organisers, one of the most emotional acknowledgements for his work went to Mariló, a member “who since before its founding has encouraged and supported the pipe and drum music”.

The speeches were followed by all the groups, together with the “El Repiquet” Drum Group, playing “Lo Xular” in unison, a piece composed by Vicent Obiol.

The day ended with a supper and dance for all participants and helpers.
