Fernando Ruiz and Sofía García win the 2nd Race up to Santa Llúcia


A total of some 240 runners set off on Sunday 14th July in the second year of the “Pujá a Santa Llúcia” organised by the Amics de les Curses Populars with support from the Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre council.

The race started at 8am from in front of the Bar Gales, in the calle San José, with the runners facing the 17 kilometres up to the Ermita de Santa Llúcia, in the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park.
The winner in the men’s category was Fernando Ruiz, with a time of 1hr 23mins, with Javier La Fuente second 1 minute behind him.  Third on the podium was local runner, José Ángel Ebrí, just two minutes slower.

The ladies’ trophy went to Sofía García, with a time of 1hr 48mins, followed by Mª Carmen Traver, in 2hrs 51mins, and in third place, Eva Gual, in 2hrs 52mins.

The Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, presented the trophies to the winners, accompanied by Montse, the owner of the Bar Gales.
